Abstract
The prevention services offered by the German social accident insurance institutions were evaluated in terms of effectiveness and financial viability as part of the ?Quality in Prevention? project. It is very important for the associations to show that the services they provide to companies have a positive effect and actually result in changes and improvements in occupational safety and health. When looking at the prevention work done by the associations such as rule-setting, consultation, training and research, it is clear that these elements do not operate in isolation but rather they influence each other and the effects they produce. The services work in interaction with one another and jointly have an effect in the company. This is due to the fact that consultants from the associations have experience across different areas and the experience they have in one specific area can be drawn upon to directly impact the results of another. The following article describes these interactions and their complex nature using an example that has a long tradition in occupational safety and health: noise prevention.
