Abstract
Evidence suggests that aerosols of cemented carbides constitute a human health hazard. In the Measurement system for exposure assessment of the German Social Accident Insurance Institutions (MGU), a systematic measurement campaign was conducted in the years 2007 to 2009 on exposure at workplaces involving cemented carbides. Its purpose was to obtain company-related exposure data and measured values during the manufacture and processing of cemented carbides, and to document them in the MEGA exposure database for the purpose of statistical analysis. The statistical analyses have been incorporated into informative publication BGI/GUV-I 790-024 concerning cemented-carbide workplaces and recommendations for hazard identification, issued by the accident insurance institutions in accordance with the German Ordinance on hazardous substances, September 2010, www.dguv.de/ifa/egu.
